Homemade Lip Gloss

Yet another idea from Pinterest!

What you'll need:
  • A container for your lip gloss (I used an Altoids tin)
  • Vaseline
  • Either eye shadow or food coloring
  • A bowl
  • HOT water
  • Peppermint extract or any other flavoring

Place the tin in a flat bowl

Put a spoon of Vaseline in the tin

Pour HOT water into the bowl.
Make sure none of the water gets in the tin.

The tin in the bowl of hot water works as a double boiler, melting the Vaseline.

Once the Vaseline is melted, now is the time to add the food coloring or eye shadow to give it some color!
When you use food coloring it does slightly tint your lips, so reds and pinks are okay.
Blues and greens aren't so great, unless of course you want your lips to be blue or green.
Also, now would be the time to add your peppermint extract or any other flavoring you like.
(the flavoring is optional)

Take the tin out of the water and mix in the food coloring with a toothpick.
(I took it out of the water to avoid getting the water in the tin)
While you do this check if your water is still hot.
If not, stick your bowl in the microwave for about a minute.

While you were mixing in the food coloring the Vaseline probably solidified.
No biggie, stick it back in the water and let it melt til it's all level.

Take the tin out of the water and let sit for a while before using.
And VOILA! You just made your very own lip gloss!

Rainbow Pop Tab Bracelet

So I've been seeing these pop tab bracelets all over Pinterest lately and I thought I'd give it a try.

Also we've been drinking a whole lot of root beer lately...

What you need:
  • 20-26 pop tabs (I used 21 pop tabs and it was a bit loose)
  • String or elastic chord
  • 6 jump rings and a clasp (if you use the elastic chord you don't need these)
  • Pliers

I painted some of the tabs with nail polish because all I had we're regular tabs not the fancy shmancy energy drink ones.
Cut the string or chord about 2-1/2 feet.
If you're using string you may want to double up.
Loop it through the first tab, situating a colored tab at the center of the string.
The colored ones will be on the out side.

Hold another tab below your first tab, (make sure your rough edges are facing each other so it doesn't scratch you when you wear it) overlapping so you can see through the openings of both tabs.

Thread the string up from the bottom through both tabs, bringing top cord through top hole and bottom cord through bottom hole.
OK, now get another colored tab and hold it on top, overlapping as before,
and this time, thread the cords through the opposite holes forming an X on top.

KEEP GOING!
It's time consuming but so worth it!

Once you have the desired length, (I used 11 colored tabs and 10 regular tabs) attach two jump rings to each side of the tab.

Link another jump ring connecting the two previous jump rings.
Add a clasp.
Do the same to the other side, just minus the clasp.

If you used the elastic chord just tie the chord to the first pop tab and you should be able to stretch it onto your wrist!

When you're finished it should look like this!
